The XT6 may not be the largest SUV in the current Cadillac family, but it is the brand’s largest crossover and it delivers an awful lot of capability and versatility without compromising on comfort or style. The XT6 can accommodate up to seven people, but many will choose to go with second-row captain’s chairs that make great use of the Cadillac crossover’s impressive amount of interior space. This is a vehicle that delivers practicality, versatility, comfort, and luxury by the bucketload, but it also manages to look extremely modern and stylish while doing it.
The XT6 may not be a compact model by any stretch of the imagination, but the number of available trim levels follows the familiar current Cadillac blueprint. That means there are just three different versions of the XT6 to choose from, and like the smallest crossover in the 2022 lineup, two of the three available models share top billing and a common starting MSRP. If you’re familiar with Cadillac trim levels you won’t be surprised to find the entry-level version of the XT6 is the Luxury model and then we have the Premium Luxury and the Sport variants.
Premium Luxury and Sport versions of the XT6 have identical starting MSRPs, but a quick glance at the list of standard equipment shows the entry-level Luxury variant is no poor relation by any means. Also, and unlike in the US, all versions of the 2022 Cadillac XT6 here in Canada get AWD as part of their standard specification.
The standard engine under the hood of the 2022 Cadillac XT6 Luxury is a 2.0-litre turbo-four that provides the crossover with 237 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque which gets sent to all four wheels through a nine-speed automatic transmission. There’s no option to upgrade the engine of the XT6 Luxury, but both the Premium Luxury and Sport variants come standard with the more powerful engine option. The unit in question is a 3.6-litre V-6 that develops 310 horsepower and 271 lb.-ft. of torque, which once again sends its power to all four wheels through a nine-speed automatic transmission.
As a fully-loaded XT6 is a sizeable and weighty vehicle, most versions you’ll come across on lots will be Premium Luxury and Sport models equipped with that V-6. However, if you’re not going to be loading the Cadillac up to its capacity on a regular basis then you might want to consider a factory order for an XT6 Luxury with the turbo-four which then looks like an awful lot of luxury vehicle for pretty reasonable money.
It’s hard to believe the XT6 isn’t classed as full-size when you experience its spacious cabin, but there’s a lot more to like about it than just the abundant available space. Standard entry-level features an 8-speaker Bose premium audio system that’s part of an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system that also includes 6 USB ports, voice recognition, Bluetooth phone connectivity and audio streaming, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.
Premium Luxury and Sport models have very similar specifications, but as the name suggests, the XT6 Sport goes down a sportier route by adding features such as 6-piston front Brembo performance brakes, red-painted front and rear calipers, and a chassis with real-time damping suspension.
The 2022 Cadillac XT6 has the capability and versatility to rival a minivan, but it delivers it with an awful lot more style, prestige, comfort, and luxury than any minivan you’ll come across in a showroom or on a lot.
