At first glance, the 2022 Cadillac XT5 might appear to be a slightly larger version of its smaller sibling, but there’s more to the XT5 than just a larger body. The trim level lineup may look similar, but there’s a little more choice for buyers as well as more space, especially if you like the option of paying a little more to get extra performance. The 2022 XT5 is an excellent luxury compact crossover that will turn heads when you’re driving through Sherwood Park, St. Albert, Spruce Grove, Leduc or anywhere else in and around the Greater Edmonton Area.
There are three trim levels to choose from with the Cadillac XT5 for the 2022 model year, but this model doesn’t follow exactly the same strategy as Cadillac’s smallest SUV. Rather than the second and third models in the range being priced the same but going down different routes of luxury and sportiness, the three XT5 trim levels are all quite distinct from each other. They’re still named Luxury, Premium Luxury, and Sport, but the XT5 Sport is, without doubt, the top-of-the-range version of the compact Cadillac SUV and is priced accordingly.
Buyers do have a choice when it comes to engines for the 2022 Cadillac XT5 and they’re both very good ones. The first engine is a 2.0-litre turbo-four that’s standard with the entry-level XT5 Luxury and the mid-range Premium Luxury trim, and this one produces a very healthy 235 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque. The alternative powerplant that’s available is a very impressive 3.6-litre V-6 which then gives the XT5 310 horsepower and 271 lb.-ft. of torque to play with. The V-6 is standard with the range-topping XT5 Sport and it’s also available as an upgrade for the Premium Luxury.
Only the entry-level Luxury is front-wheel drive as standard, but it can be upgraded to include AWD if you prefer. The Premium Luxury and Sport versions of the 2022 XT5 are standard AWD, and all versions of the Cadillac send their power to the wheels through a nine-speed automatic transmission.
You may well find there’s more space inside the XT5 than you’d imagine, which is a very good starting point for delivering a truly luxurious vehicle interior. There’s no doubting the luxury credentials of the XT5 Luxury, but higher-end versions of this compact crossover are truly decadent. Standard XT5 Luxury features include 18-inch alloy wheels, auto on/off headlights, heated front and rear seats and steering wheel, dual-zone automatic climate control, synthetic leather upholstery, and an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with an 8-speaker Bose sound system and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility.
Premium Luxury models add more advanced safety features such as Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert, and there are a lot of features on the options list that are not available for the base model. And as well as the 3.6-litre engine, the range-topping Sport model also comes with the likes of Brembo front performance brakes and real-time damping suspension that seamlessly adjusts to road conditions by adjusting damping forces every two milliseconds.
