If you were asked to describe a large, imposing, and outrageously luxurious vehicle the first name you’d probably come up with would be Escalade. The 2022 Cadillac Escalade not only lives up to expectations, it positively exceeds them. It’s hard to imagine a swankier way to drive around Edmonton, Sherwood Park, Spruce Grove, Beaumont, or Leduc than in the latest Escalade, and this year you’ll also be even safer driving around thanks to even more standard safety features.
As well as a choice of engines, the 2022 Cadillac Escalade is also available in five superb trim levels, so the only “take it or leave it” element involved when it comes to configuring your new Escalade is four-wheel-drive, as there isn’t a rear-drive option here in Canada. Perhaps to reinforce the idea that there’s really no such thing as a ‘basic’ Escalade, the entry-level version is appropriately called the Escalade Luxury. From there the lineup goes to the Premium Luxury, Sport, Premium Luxury, and then to the Premium Luxury Platinum and Sport Platinum which share top-of-the-range billing and in identical MSRP.
It would be almost unthinkable to try and imagine an Escalade with anything smaller than a V-8 under the hood, but the one alternative that would make sense is a diesel, and Cadillac is happy to oblige. The standard powerplant under the hood of all versions of the 2022 Escalade is a 6.2-litre V-8 that develops 420 horsepower and 460 lb.-ft. of torque which sends that power to all four wheels through a 10-speed automatic transmission. The power delivery is smooth, and it’s almost impossible to detect the transmission shifts, even though the gas V-8 can get you from 0 to 60 mph in just six seconds.
That alternative engine is a 3.0-litre inline-six turbodiesel that puts out 277 horsepower and identical torque to the gas V-8, which is once again sent to all four wheels through that 10-speed auto. And if you’re interested in towing with the Escalade, you’ll be glad to know that it’s rated to tow as much as 3,629 kg (8,000 pounds).
range Escalade Sport boasting standard Mulan leather upholstery, an ionizer air cleaner, a panoramic sunroof, an electronically controlled limited-slip rear differential, magnetic dampers, a Trailering Integration package, and lots of the latest safety features. The co-headline models go as far as standard Opus semi-aniline leather upholstery, 16-way power-adjustable front seats with a massage function, a top-of-the-line 36-speaker AKG audio system, soft-close doors, and an air suspension system featuring selectable drive modes.
The safety credentials of the Escalade have been further enhanced this year with the previously optional Adaptive Cruise Control, Enhanced Automatic Emergency Braking, Reverse Automatic Braking, and Automatic Seat Belt Tightening features now coming standard on Premium Luxury and Sport trim levels.
It’s one thing knowing that the 2022 Cadillac Escalade is a full-size luxury SUV, but it’s something else entirely to experience it and appreciate it for yourself. Of course, the best way to do that if you don’t already own one is with a test drive from Don Wheaton Cadillac at our dealership located here at 10727 82 Avenue, Edmonton, AB.
