If you think the entire automotive world now revolves almost entirely around trucks and SUVs, then the 2022 Cadillac CT4 is here to tell you differently. It’s easy to get swept up on the wave of popularity that SUVs and trucks are undeniably riding right now, but the CT4 is a stark reminder of just how good sedans can still be and how they shouldn’t be automatically overlooked in favour of SUVs that may not have more or even as much to offer as the CT4.
There may be just four trim levels in the regular CT4 lineup, but other automakers may market a lineup like this as twice that size because all four trim levels are available in either standard rear-wheel-drive or available all-wheel-drive formats. On top of that, the 2022 model year also introduces a brand new, performance-focused CT4-V Blackwing model.
The non-Blackwing lineup starts off with the CT4 Luxury and then goes to the Premium Luxury, Sport, and finally to the range-topping and seriously impressive V-Series. This may well be the smallest vehicle in the current Cadillac range, but the luxury feel of the interior is enhanced by it being a little more spacious than its main compact rivals.
Two engines are offered in the standard CT4 lineup, and the standard unit for most models is a 2.0-litre turbo-four that puts out an impressive 237 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque that goes to the rear or all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission. The second engine is 2.7-litre Dual Volute turbo-four which then provides the CT4 with 310 horsepower and 350 lb.-ft. of torque. This engine is available for the Premium Luxury and comes standard in the V-Series, but this time the power goes to the front or all four wheels through a 10-speed automatic transmission.
If that’s still not enough for you, the new CT4-V Blackwing gets a 3.6-litre twin-turbo V-6 developing a stunning 472 horsepower and 445 lb.-ft. of torque that will get the CT4 from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.8 seconds.
Cadillac is synonymous with luxury and opulence, and despite its relatively compact proportions, the CT4 certainly lives up to that reputation with an impressive list of standard features and equipment at every level. Base LS models come with heated front seats and a heated steering wheel, LED headlights and taillights, an 8-speaker premium audio system, a dual digital Driver Information Centre display, dual-zone climate control, an HD rear vision camera, leatherette seats, and an excellent infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.
Of course, as you go higher in the range the list of standard and available features gets progressively longer, but many buyers will be very pleased with what the Luxury model comes with and it’s a great gateway model for the Cadillac brand as it really does represent excellent value for money.
If you’ve forgotten about sedans to some degree recently then the 2022 Cadillac CT4 is a model that demands you take another look. At every level, the CT4 is at least as well equipped and impressive as any of its rivals, but it also undercuts those rivals when it comes to the price tag.
